Offering Free Legal Forms
Law firms can offer free legal forms as a way of generating traffic to their sites through the DirectLaw platform.
The DirectLaw platform enables you to offer free forms/docs via your Web site
(to serve as a traffic driver or complementary for your existing clients), and
allows you to designate how you want those free docs to be handled by the
system.
All options related to documents are found within the Customize Store tab of the
Attorney Dashboard. Within the list of available documents, you will see 2
options with respect to how you want to handle any docs you designate as "free".
Free to Download -- this option allows a user to open the
online Questionnaire associated with a document; complete it; and immediately
download the completed documents (without submitting to the firm for review).
Free to Submit -- this option allows a user to open the online
Questionnaire associated with a document; complete it, and Submit
it to the firm. In this case, the firm would need to review, finalize and upload
the doc back to the client before the client would have access to it.
Overall, it really depends on what you're comfortable with and which forms you
offer for free (there may be some where you want to be involved in the
process).
We've had requests from firms for each type of workflow, so we thought it was
best to provide a self-serve interface so firms can decide how they want to
handle their free docs.
